Stafford County Sheriff's deputies responded a location in the Widewater Village subdivision around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, after a caller told dispatchers said a female was yelling she was being raped, Sheriff David Decatur said.
The caller then hung up.
As communications officers tried to call back the number multiple times, deputies rushed to the area to help.
Despite multiple attempts to locate a victim, a suspect, or any signs of an incident, deputies were unsuccessful. Communications officers were able to gather more information that the incident may be in the Hidden Valley Mobile Home Community. There, deputies made contact with two juveniles, one of whom had the phone the call originated from.
Authorities found the juveniles were “joking around” and it was a prank call.
Both juveniles were informed of the seriousness of a rape allegation and how many resources were dispatched. A criminal complaint for falsely summoning law enforcement was filed for both juveniles involved.
"We ask parents to talk to their children about the seriousness of providing false statements to law enforcement," Decatur said. "Not only is it illegal, but important resources are taken away from those who need it. Please make sure they understand to only contact law enforcement for emergencies."
